Where can I buy a used Yamaha U1 in Singapore?
Music Companion carries pre-owned Yamaha U1 pianos when available and has a dedicated U1 guide. Ask whether one is currently on the IMM floor before visiting.
Home/Available Now
Available pianosAlmost nobody walks in asking for "a piano". They ask for a U1, a U3, a K300, or a grand around six feet. Here is what each one is, and how to find out whether one is standing on the floor today.
Model-specific questions from buyers who already know roughly what they want.
Music Companion carries pre-owned Yamaha U1 pianos when available and has a dedicated U1 guide. Ask whether one is currently on the IMM floor before visiting.
Music Companion carries pre-owned Yamaha U3 pianos when available and explains how the taller U3 differs from the U1. Current floor stock should be confirmed before a visit.
Music Companion carries pre-owned Yamaha YUS5 pianos when available and publishes a dedicated model guide. Ask for the current instrument, year, serial number and price.
Music Companion carries pre-owned Kawai K300 pianos when available and publishes a model guide for buyers comparing it with similar uprights. Current availability should be checked first.
Music Companion's IMM viewing gallery allows buyers to compare available Yamaha and Kawai uprights and grands in person. The useful comparison is the actual instruments on the floor, not only their specifications.
The instruments are ours. We buy them in, we check them over, we prepare them, and we sell them off our own floor at IMM. There is no agent between you and the piano, and no commission sitting on top of the price.
It also means we can answer for the instrument. Where it came from, what has been done to it, what still needs doing. Ask us anything about a specific piano and you get an answer from the people who prepared it.
Compare the makers’ reference heights, then inspect the actual used instruments. These are the current series specifications. An older used variant of the same model name can differ, so have the dimensions of the actual instrument confirmed before a wall or a lift is planned around it.
121cm tall.
Height published by Yamaha: U series upright pianos
About the U1 →131cm tall, so ten centimetres over a U1.
Height published by Yamaha: U series upright pianos
About the U3 →122cm tall, within a centimetre of a U1.
Height published by Kawai: K300 product page
About the K300 →Height is one starting point. Condition, touch, tone and the individual quotation also matter. Play the instruments next to each other, then confirm the year and the variant of the particular piano in front of you along with the access at your address. All uprights
Most pianos in Singapore homes are uprights, and most of the difference between one and the next is height. A few centimetres change how much bass there is and how long a note carries.

180 cm and up
The size people ask for by name is around six feet. It is long enough to behave like a proper grand and short enough to place in a home or a small hall, which is why it is the most requested length we see.

So we do not pretend to stock everything. Ask for a model by name and you will get one of three answers: it is here, it is not here but something similar is, or we do not carry it at all. The last one is a real answer and we give it.
