Which organisations rent pianos?
- Schools and music programmes: for classrooms, practice rooms, recitals and examinations.
- Churches and places of worship: for regular services, rehearsals and community events.
- Community centres and clubs: for music classes, events and shared practice spaces.
- Temporary venues: for exhibitions, pop-up events or spaces under renovation.
For one-off event rentals (weddings, performances, corporate events), see the event rental page instead.
What to confirm with the provider
- Instrument type and quantity: upright or grand, how many, and whether specific models are available.
- Rental period and renewal: the minimum term, monthly or annual pricing, and what happens at the end.
- Maintenance: whether regular tuning and servicing is included or charged separately.
- Delivery and collection: who arranges and pays for transport at the start and end of the rental.
- Insurance and liability: who is responsible for damage during the rental period.
- Replacement or upgrade: whether a different instrument can be substituted if needs change.
Logistics for institutions
Institutional deliveries often have requirements that home deliveries do not:
- Advance booking with building management or facilities staff.
- Access through specific loading bays or goods lifts.
- Placement in a specific room, which may involve narrow corridors or multiple floors.
- Coordination with classes, services or events so the delivery does not disrupt activities.
Provide the full access details when you enquire. See the delivery guide for a detailed checklist. Music Companion rents uprights and grands to schools and institutions; the rental page covers what is available.
Institutional rental, answered.
Can a school rent pianos instead of buying?
Yes. Rental provides access to instruments without the capital outlay. This is useful for programmes that may change their instrument needs, temporary facilities or organisations testing demand. Confirm in writing what maintenance is included in the rental agreement.
What maintenance is included in a rental?
Ask the provider what is covered. Some rental arrangements include regular tuning and basic maintenance; others charge separately. Clarify this in writing before confirming.
How long can an institution rent for?
Rental periods vary by provider. Some offer monthly arrangements; others require a minimum term. Confirm the minimum period, renewal terms and what happens at the end of the rental.
Can we try the piano before renting?
Ask whether you can view or play the specific instrument before it is delivered. For longer-term rentals, it is worth seeing the instrument in person.
